LEGO certainly makes a lot of effort to create new and interesting kits like this Ferrari F40 Creator Series, but sometimes its the home enthusiasts that pull off the most impressive feats with the plastic blocks. While this certainly isn’t the first Starcraft inspired LEGO creation we’ve seen, it just might be the most involved and detailed:

A group of LEGO builders got together to create an entire map from the popular Blizzard RTS, Starcraft. Not just a few units and structures though, we are talking a complete map, with all three playable races from the game: Terran, Protoss and Zerg. The scale and detail within is quite impressive, with extremely detailed characters/units scattered between what seems like just about every building you can create in the game. The entire model spans about 14 feet across.

Straight from the show floor at Brickworld Chicago 2015, Simon Liu has created a life size Claptrap model made entirely of LEGO. While not an exact plastic brick replica like the new LEGO Ferrari F40, the beloved Borderlands character comes to life in full block form and at quite an impressive scale (2.5 feet tall, 1:1 scale). Liu, who is a huge Borderlands fan, said it was difficult to match the angles of the titular robot, and was forced to create a completely solid wheel just to hold the top up.

Watch this speedrunner clear Super Mario World for SNES in 23 minutes while blindfolded

There is a thriving community of speedrunners out there that race through some of the best known games in history. There are many forms of speedrunning from finding complex glitches in the game world to zip past large portions of the experience, to tool assisted/emulator runs where gamers dig right into the code of the game. Super Mario World, originally released on the SNES, has been beaten start to finish, in less than 5 minutes using an advanced credits warp glitch, but just recently one speed runner beat it blindfolded:

While speedrunner PangaeaPanga didn’t even come close to the less than 5 minutes clocked by some of his colleagues, he did manage to clear the entire game blindfolded in just over 23 minutes. That’s right, Super Mario World, completely blind in 23 minutes and 14 seconds, and you can watch the whole thing happen above.

Now his run wasn’t without flaw, in fact, he made a few mistakes, but it was nonetheless still a very impressive feat. Relying mainly on some serious memory work, and what appears to be a heavy dependency on the audio (notifications from nearby devices seem to throw him off), he lands right at Bowser’s castle within about 13 minutes.

You would think PangaeaPanga has been practicing this for years, but apparently that isn’t the case. He just started to train blindfolded on the 16th of June and began making serious attempts just this past weekend. Keep in mind, he has likely been playing this game for years, and he is a professional speedrunner who takes his games pretty seriously (as you can see).

After more than 800 hours (spread across 6+ years) of crocheting and research, Norwegian computer programmer and skydiving champion Kjetil Nordin now has a giant replica Super Mario Bros 3 map made of yarn. Not only does each element appear to be done with extreme care and detail, but Nordin spent a ton of effort sourcing yarn that is the exact same colors as the game. He apparently scrapped a large portion of the design, when the water surrounding the castle didn’t turn out to be the right color once assembled.

Oculus finally unveils the retail version of its Rift VR headset

Update (1/04 12:50pm): Oculus has now announced that pre-orders for the 3D Rift headset will go live on its official site as of January 6th at 11AM EST. No pricing information has been released as of yet. “As a reminder, every Rift comes bundled with Lucky’s Tale by Playful, and we’re also including CCP’s EVE: Valkyrie for free with every pre-order!”

Nearly three years after Oculus introduced us to what a VR headset in the home could look like, it has now finally unveiled the version it will be taking to retail. The consumer version of the Oculus VR headset was shown-off just a short while ago at the company’s pre-E3 2015 event, where we got more information on the hardware itself, how it will be integrated with Xbox One, and what kind of content we can expect on day one.

Ratchet & Clank is coming to PS4 with impressive next gen visuals and a brand new arsenal

With the biggest event on the gaming calendar about to kick-off on Sunday, more and more exciting game announcements are starting to drop. Today we get the reveal of a new Ratchet & Clank game coming to PS4, and it looks gorgeous.

While you’re likely already thinking, here’s another HD remake, and to some degree it is, but it looks like Insomniac is going the extra distance to make it much more than that. Already known for its amazing visuals, reminiscent of Disney or Pixar films, Ratchet has never looked as good as he does on Sony’s next gen console.

While very much based on the original PlayStation 2 classic and tied to the upcoming CG film release, Insomniac is adding in modern controls, several new planets to explore, both updated (and new) action sequences and more. You can expect more boss fights, additional gameplay with Clank, and a brand new arsenal along with some old favorites:

That means both new weapons and fan-favorite tools of destruction from the Ratchet & Clank Future series will fill out Ratchet’s kit. From the brand new Pixelizer (which transforms enemies into explosive 8-bit pixels) to franchise favorites like the dance-party-inducing Groovitron

Unfortunately, Ratchet & Clank fans will have to wait until the Spring of next year to get their hands on it, but the pre-order is already up on Amazon with the bonus “Bouncer” weapon from Going Commando for $39.99 shipped.
