At one point, gaming headsets with microphones were reserved for the hardcore gaming enthusiasts that spent hours online at a time and craved the boost of a locked-in environment. Over the last few years, companies like Turtle Beach, SteelSeries and Razer have flooded the market with headset options at all price points. However, Xbox One users have settled in with one company in particular as the go-to for supplying top-notch audio for their gaming experience.
The Turtle Beach Elite 800X hit the shelves of retailers a few months ago, labeled as “the most advanced gaming headset ever”. That’s a lofty description, but with wireless connectivity, DTS 7.1 surround sound, custom audio profiles and luxury materials, we knew we had to see if this headset lived up to the hype.

If you’re into wirelessly streaming audio to a set of speakers, your options seem endless. From AirPlay to Bluetooth to Sonos and LG, options abound in this time of less cords and greater convenience. Google recently got into the mix with its Google Cast for audio standard. Google already has audio and video streaming capabilities with Chromecast, but that is limited to TV with its HDMI input.
A nifty little Kickstarter campaign has a plan to bring Chromecast’s wireless streaming capabilities to your speaker system with a dongle add-on. It’s an intriguing hack that seems so simple, you’d wish you would’ve thought of it…

Over the last year, two of the biggest product categories experiencing growth and development have been fitness tracking and wireless headphones. A new Kickstarter campaign has set out to accomplish just that. Kuaiwear’s Multisport Biometric Headphones combine the data collection of an Apple Watch with the flexibility of wireless headphones into one very interesting package.

9to5Toys Specials currently has the Revogi Smart Color Bluetooth LED Bulb for $35 with free shipping. It is a great price for a multi-colored, energy-efficient bulb.
The bulb connects to your phone (iOS/Android) via Bluetooth, and it can then be controlled through Revogi’s app. The LEDs are capable of producing sixteen million colors, any of which can be selected via a color wheel in the app, and moving the on-screen slider adjusts overall brightness. You can also set up “smart timers” to switch the bulb on or off at certain times of the day — waking up time and sunset, for instance — and the preset “scenes” offer quick access to certain behaviors, such as pulsing to the beat of music. The other major advantage of this bulb is its energy efficiency; it uses 90% less power than a standard bulb in the same socket.

Apple’s AirPlay audio streaming has always been more expensive than Bluetooth. But as Bluetooth technology grows in popularity, audio gear makers are being forced to drop AirPlay prices. None of that changes the fact that AirPlay is a dead simple way for Apple fans to stream audio. AirPlay requires a Wi-Fi connection, but that’ll gain you greater streaming distances and improved audio quality.
And right now the argument that AirPlay is ‘overpriced’ is no longer valid — Harman Kardon is offering the JBL SoundFly Air Wi-Fi AirPlay Speaker for $200, but coupon code 39SDFLY drops your final price down to $39 with free shipping. That’s in-line with some budget Bluetooth options and the best price we’ve seen. Today’s deal is only $10 more than the best refurbished price we’ve seen.
