Google Play is offering Mötley Crüe’s The Greatest Hits album for free. This album typically sells for $12.99 on Google Play or $1.29 per song. Already known for its highly-rated products, Cree is now bringing smart home compatibility with the Connected LED Bulb. Starting in February, TiVo will be offering a new service for its users called OnePass that will strive to make binge watching easier than ever. The goal here is to put all of the available options of watching a complete season of a show in one place, in this instance the My Shows folder on your TiVo device. TiVo’s latest DVR devices have the ability to stream from services such as Netflix and Hulu Plus putting a larger supply of shows at your fingertips.
TiVo’s new OnePass service takes these options into account when searching out all the ways to catch up on a whole season. After investigating all of the streaming, live TV and other on demand options, TiVo will then list out the entire season within the My Shows folder. This is a particular strength of this offering in comparison to the Apple TV which does not feature universal search.
The new OnePass service from TiVo will be available in February on Roamio and TiVo Mini devices at no extra charge. Additionally, the service will also be available for via the iOS app next month and is expected for Android in March.

DISH is looking to revolutionize home entertainment by offering a smaller package of popular channels, without contract, for just $20 per month. Focusing on a handful of popular channels has allowed for DISH to put together a competitive product, dubbed Sling TV, that falls between the Netflix/Hulu and full cable TV price points. With ESPN, TNT and TBS, Sling TV is making a strong case for your living room.

The home automation sector of consumer technology continues to grow and generally improve, as more devices gain “smart” functionality. We’ve seen a number of products enter the fray during Q4 of 2014, but it’s yet to be seen whether any one company is ready to bring it all together in a truly mainstream way. Prior to CES 2015 in January, LG has announced four new additions to its line of desktop displays with an emphasis on different needs for gamers, video editors and other professionals. When it comes to multi-room wireless speaker systems, the conversation has started and ended with SONOS in recent years. They’ve managed to create a fail-safe system that features a solid mesh network and offers a wide variety of streaming services. But as CES 2015 rapidly approaches LG has set its sights on SONOS with its new line of Music Flow wireless speakers.
But LG does offer a specific feature with one of its new speakers that even Sonos cannot claim….
Samsung has announced the latest addition to its line of desktop displays with the SE790C extra-wide curved 34-inch monitor. This follows up the 27-inch SD590C from September that started Samsung’s curved monitor endeavors. The 21:9 aspect ratio is able to handle a resolution of up to 3,440×1,4000 with a pixel density of roughly 110, which surpasses 1080p and compares favorably to the 34-inch LG UM95.
The SE790C is built for an “immersive and comfortable viewing experience” that also focuses on multi-tasking while maximizing the monstrous 34-inch display. Samsung claims that “all curves are not created equally”, touting a curve that aligns with the natural shape on a human eye ball. This allows for equal-distant viewing for peripheral vision as well which Samsung says makes it easier to see more of the screen at once.
Samsung is packing features that we’d expect to see in a flagship display offering, such as picture-in-picture, USB 3.0 and HDMI inputs. Pricing has not yet been announced, but we expect to see a follow-up with more information at CES in January where we’ll have a full team on site.

Seagate has entered the high capacity storage arms race today with its 8TB Archive 3.5-inch internal hard drive. What has previously cost nearly $1,000 can now be had in a TB matching package for $270 or roughly $.03 per gigabyte. Seagate is pushing down what was a nearly unreachable price point for consumers into a market where some backup options don’t get you nearly the storage for the money.
The Seagate Archive internal hard drive line will also be available in 6 and 5TB sizes as well, these drives are “engineered for 24×7 workloads of 180TB per year” and offer SATA performance of up to 6GB/s. While the average user may not have the need for a huge storage option like this, when utilizing partions into small chunks this would make a great backup option for multiple computer homes or small businesses.
