With Android on the up, now is a great time to start building apps for the Play Store. The Comprehensive Android Development Bundle at 9to5Toys Specials teaches coding and design from scratch, with 83 hours of video tutorials for $40.
The headline training is The Ultimate Android Marshmallow Tutorial, a massive 40-hour course that teaches the latest version of the OS from scratch. After touring the Android Studio development environment, the videos introduce Java code, popular APIs, third-party libraries, and monetization techniques.
Two more courses add extra coding knowledge to your locker, while Projects in Android provides hands-on practice. These tutorials look at parsing data, integrating Google Maps, UI layouts, security features, and much more.
The final course, Advanced Android App Development, helps to put the final polish on your own apps. Along with Material Design, the instructor explains the Android Support Library, and how to use advanced design components such as RecyclerView.
The bundle is specifically designed to be beginner-friendly, and the price includes lifetime access to the content. Sign up now to save 94% on the MSRP.

Black + Decker is launching its new “Smartech” batteries today that have Bluetooth built-in to allow for control and monitoring from a companion app on a connected smartphone.
Smartphone cameras are pretty awesome nowadays, but most devices have a fixed lens. The Acesori 3-in-1 Lens Kit lets you get wider and closer while maintaining quality. You can pick one up now for $10 shipped via 9to5Toys Specials.
The kit includes fisheye, wide-angle and macro lenses. The fisheye is the widest, capturing a 180º field of view in a single, brilliantly whacky photo. The wide-angle lens is designed for capturing landscapes, without the slightly warped effect. The macro lens is for studying tiny details, such as bugs or the texture of a flower petal. The lenses attach magnetically to the supplied mount, which you simply stick to the back of your phone. This means you can swap between the lenses with ease, and retain normal use of your phone. The lenses are made from high-quality, scratch-resistant glass, and they come with caps and lanyards for safe transport. The kit also contains a cleaning cloth.
You can grab the Acesori 3-in-1 Kit now to save an impressive 80% off the regular price, with free shipping to the Continental US and a one-year warranty thrown in.

There’s any number of unique ways to type on your iPhone these days. With new third-party keyboards coming out weekly, it seems, you’re bound to find an alternative to the stock option that ships with iOS. But what about physical keyboards? While there are Bluetooth options designed for iPhone, the majority are either too large or have been disproportionally shrunk down.
An upcoming device called Tap was revealed this week with a design that looks straight out of the movies. This Bluetooth wearable tracks the movements of your fingers to recreate a virtual keyboard on “nearly any surface.”

Smart home products and robust app stores have brought on a variety of changes in our lives over the last five years. A byproduct of that innovation is the myriad of devices, developer kits and data points that are constantly pinging us. Apple has attempted to curb some of this (at times painful) experience with HomeKit. However, that is primarily focused on hardware functionality. The reality is that we still have all of this information, which leads us to constantly checking our devices for updates.

But, for today only, the phone has dropped back down to its pre-order price point, and is once again available in black and white for just $99 on Amazon.

Philips Hue light bulbs are amongst some of our favorite smart home accessories. While the product line has often been imitated, the majority of its competition has failed to capture the ease of use and quality. There are Hue bulbs that can replicate nearly any color imaginable and traditional options as well.
One area that has yet to be addressed, however, is ambient lighting. While Philips already offers dawn simulation lighting, smartphone connectivity is not available. Today, the two converge in a new product that focuses on consumers waking up with more energy. Additionally, Philips has announced a new ‘Routines’ feature in its app that memorizes your daily schedule and adjusts lighting to mimic the sun. More below.

For a device costing under $300 it had an array of high end features, including a crisp, colorful big screen, great stereo sound and fantastic battery life. Of course, it also helped that the software was clean and almost stock Android.

When Android Wear and Apple Watch launched, each device touted the ability to bring the functionality of a phone to your wrist. This has been executed with varying degrees of success. While I am able to check my notifications and carry out certain tasks on my Apple Watch, an iPhone it is not.

Anker is one of a few big names in USB accessories, and there’s a reason for that. This week I had the chance to use several of the company’s PowerCore+ power banks (there are a lot of different offerings spanning many capacities), as well as a PowerPort+ wall charger, and a few different PowerDrive+ car chargers. There are many brands of chargers and power banks out there, and while the experience you get may be similar across the board (yes, there are many chargers and power banks out there just as good as these), Anker goes above and beyond to bring you a package that’s just very high-quality…

Home security is no laughing matter. Thankfully, we’ve seen quite a bit of innovation in this space that has allowed consumers to move away from traditional services like ADT. From standalone options like Canary to Nest Cam and the like, there are plenty of options on the table. Even the old school method of putting your lights on a timer has seen improvements.
That’s where ComfyLight comes in. A new product that just launched on Kickstarter with eyes on adding internet-connectivity to your lights while increasing security and peace-of-mind. The hook? It tracks your movements and routines, so when you’re away from home your lights continue to operate as if you were there…
