2015 MacBook Air 11 and 13-inch models from $829 w/ free DVD burner, discounted AppleCare and $50 rebate

Yesterday we ran a deal for the biggest discount we had seen to date on any 2015 MacBook Air (it’s still alive, BTW). At that time we mentioned how most discounts on these models have been modest (about 5%). While that’s still true today, we have discovered that Adorama is sweetening these prices by throwing in some freebies and offering a mail-in rebate on AppleCare bundles.

Below you’ll find Adorama’s VIP Exclusive pricing. To be eligible for these discounts you’ll need to sign-up as an Adorama VIP. Registration is free right now and honestly has been since as far back as I can recall, but apparently it usually sells for $149. After registering you’ll be eligible for these 2015 MacBook Air prices:

The above listings are all standard configurations. Adorama also has a slew of custom configured MacBook Airs at a discount as well.

All of these deals include a free LG Electronics GP50NB40 Super-Multi External DVD Burner, which is an additional savings of $26.99.

Purchase AppleCare at the discounted rate of $174 (Reg. $249) at the same time as one of the aforementioned laptops and you’ll be able to save an additional $50 with this mail-in rebate.

If you’re looking for a deal on the Retina MacBook Pro, Retina iMac or any other Mac, I’d suggest starting at Apple’s Refurbished Online Store.

Apple AirPort Express Wireless Router w/ AirPlay and Wireless Printing $79 or refurbished $65 (Reg. $99)

The AirPort Express is by far the best wireless router for anyone in the Apple ecosystem and is a great choice for nearly everyone else as well. It’s definitely priced higher than similarly spec’d wireless N routers, but this is a case where paying “Apple tax” is worth it.

Amazon has it on sale for $79 with free shipping, which is $20 below its regular price.

Use it to setup a wireless network from the easy-to-use AirPort iOS app, print wirelessly, or AirPlay music to wired speakers. I’ve had one for years now and can’t remember the last time I had to reboot it. I know this phrase is overused, but it really does “just work,” which can’t be said for many of the headache-inducing budget routers out there.

If you don’t mind going refurbished, Apple sells an AirPort Express for $65 shipped and has the best deals for AirPort Extreme ($129) and Time Capsules (from $199).

Motorola’s Moto 360 Smartwatch is on sale for $179 or $155 w/ .edu (Reg. $250)

Update (4/15 8:40am): The below Moto 360 deals from Amazon and Best Buy are now over, but you can still find discounts available at Google Play. You’ll also find the Motorola Moto360 Smartwatch Charger for $28.23 Prime shipped on Amazon right now (Reg. $40, lowest we can find).

On the morning when initial Apple Watch supplies have sold out and try on sessions are happening all around the globe, the best Android Smartwatch is down to its lowest price ever. Coincidence? Maybe, but who cares what the reason is. These prices are terrific for anyone looking to jump into Android Wear:

Note: Best Buy prices are $0.99 more. Also, anyone with access to a .edu email address can save an additional $25 on any Moto 360 Smartwatch.

It’s rated 4 out of 5 stars from Amazon reviewers and we called it “The best Android Wear smartwatch currently available.”

Roomlia hotel savings app adds loyalty program: stay 7 nights, get 1 free

Site default logo image

The popular Roomlia hotel savings application for iOS and Android is today launching an interesting new loyalty program. Basically, if you stay 7 nights, you will get a night free.

In order to get to that free night, the application will add up the amount you paid each night for your first 7 nights, and then it will credit you back the average. In most cases, this will obviously work out to an eight night free.

The cool parts about the program, which differentiate it from competitors, are that these are actual nights, not days, and the nights can be combined. You don’t need to stay 7 nights in a row to get the credit back toward an either night. You can stay for 3 nights during one trip, and 4 nights on another trip to get up to the 7.

The app is developed by a team made up of former Expedia developers, the application actually has some great deals that beat out some of the competition.

New hotels and supported cities are added each week, and users can book rooms up to 7 days in advance, for up to 5 nights at a time.

The application is free on iOS and Android, and the new loyalty card system launches today.

AmazonBasics Apple-certified MFi Lightning cables: 6-ft $10 (Reg. $15), 3-ft $9 Prime shipped (Reg. $14)

There’s no doubt Apple-certified MFi Lighting cable prices are falling. Most crazy deals have been from smaller brands, while mainstream companies are taking more of an incremental approach to their discounting. AmazonBasics Lightning cables have a long history (over 15,000) of positive reviews and include a 1-year warranty. The prices of these cables rarely dip, but the two most popular versions are on sale right now:

6-ft version in black or white: $9.79 Prime shipped (Reg. $15)
3-ft version in black or white: $8.79 Prime shipped (Reg. $14)

Considering an Apple Watch? Pebble’s original timepiece might be a better buy for iOS users

Despite all the new releases and hype, the original Pebble is still capable of getting the job done at a more affordable price.

Updated Apple TV pricing gets passed down as players refurbished by Apple hit a new low of $59

Apple announced a $30 price drop for the current generation Apple TV during today’s Spring Forward event. Instead of selling for $99, it’s now priced at just $69. It’ll ship free or you can opt for in-store pickup at your nearest Apple retail store. I’d suggest putting your savings towards this ingenious HDTV mount for your Apple TV.

All things considered, this is the best deal we’ve ever seen for Apple’s streaming media player. Even if you already own an Apple TV, at this price it’s easy to justify picking up a second (or third!) so you can stream HBO Now throughout your house.

Apple refurbished gear carry the same one-year warranty as brand new models, and generally arrive in ‘good as new’ condition.

Microsoft announces free Office 365 for students and teachers worldwide, includes at home downloads of software

Good news coming down the pipeline for students and teachers this week: Microsoft has announced that they will be offering a free Office 365 subscription to anyone, worldwide, with an eligible email address. This includes a 1TB OneDrive allotment and free download of Microsoft Office software on up to five PCs or Macs and five mobile devices (iOS, Android and Windows). Previously, this was offered in the United States but has since expanded to the rest of the world.

A personal subscription typically retails for $9.99/month or $99/year, so this has some nice savings potential. This is big news on the iOS side of things, previously a subscription was required to get the full benefits of the app, something that has been much discussed since its initial release.

To check your eligibility (or your child’s), head over to the student account page, likewise for teachers. After entering your school provided email address, you’ll receive a confirmation email with details on finalizing your subscription and download links to grab the software. The main requirement is for your educational institution to have previously purchased Microsoft Office, if you are a user at school then you’ll likely be eligible for this deal.

Not eligible for free Office 365? Qualifying tablets from Best Buy now include a Office 365 subscription or you can grab via this HP Stream deal from Microsoft. Dropbox users still have the opportunity to add quite a bit of OneDrive storage for free.

We’ve also rounded up the best student discounts on electronics, food, games and more.

Students worldwide can now check eligibility for free Office from their school

Last week, at a public event held by the New York City Department of Education, New York City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito announced free Office for all of their 1.1M students plus teachers. The room—filled with students and teachers—erupted with cheers.

But New York is not alone.

Millions of students around the world are eligible for free Office from their school and today we are announcing that we’ve made it easy for all eligible students globally to sign up themselves to get Office 365 and install free Office.*

That includes the 5.5 million eligible students in Australia, the nearly 5 million eligible students in Germany, 7 million more in Brazil, 1.3 million at Anadolu University in Turkey, every student in Hong Kong and millions more.

This service was previously available only in the U.S., but beginning today it can be accessed by any eligible student or teacher where Office 365 is available. You’ll need a valid school email address to complete the sign up.

To check if you’re eligible for free Office from your school:

Students getting Office at no additional cost to schools is a benefit Microsoft provides to education institutions that buy Office for faculty and staff. That means teachers can also sign up and enjoy all the benefits of Office connected to a cloud service, like using the OneNote Class Notebook.

Once signed up for Office 365 you get:

  • The latest version of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Access and Publisher installed on up to five PCs or Macs and up to five mobile devices like iPad, Android and Windows tablets.
  • 1TB of storage on OneDrive you can use to store and share all your documents across all your devices.
  • Office Online for in-browser editing, collaboration and co-authoring

Feel free to cheer.
