Buy a new smartphone (including iPhone 6/Plus) at Best Buy and get a free $150 or $200 gift card

(Update 2/27 6:36pm): Our apologies, this promo is only for new activations, not upgrades. The original draft of this post was incorrect.

Best Buy will give you a free $150 or $200 gift card when you activate a line with any new smartphone on Verizon, AT&T, or Sprint. You’ll need to do so using carrier installment plans: Verizon Edge, AT&T Next, or Sprint Easy Pay/Leasing — upgrades of any kind and of course, full-priced no-commitment smartphone purchases are not eligible for the gift card bonus.

AT&T and Verizon new line activations will yield a free $150 gift card, while Sprint will get you $200 (in-store only).

The promo covers a range of smartphones including iPhone 6/Plus (in-store pickup only), iPhone 5s/c, LG G2, HTC One M8, Nokia Lumia 1520, and several others.

Verizon FiOS 50/50 Internet + Local Channels + HBO and Showtime + Netflix: $60/month

Verizon continues to sweeten the deal to get you to jump on a 2-year contract by now offering FiOS 50/50 Internet + Local Channels + HBO and Showtime + Netflix price locked for 2 years at only $59.99/mo. That’s $20/month less than our previous mention, plus the addition of Netflix and both premium channels (instead of your choice of only one previously).

This offer is $10 less than getting FiOS 50/50 Internet by itself and it’s also the first time we’ve ever seen them offer a Netflix subscription. The waived activation fee is also a savings of $50 from previous offers.

This is one of the best FIOS offers we have seen from Verizon and the largest Visa Prepaid Card we’ve seen.

Not a big fan of contracts? The same bundle is offered at the same price per month, but you forgo the gift card.

Don’t need a home phone but want HBO? Want to pay less but get faster internet speeds?  Verizon has a $50 for 50/50MB internet plan that’s one of our favorites.

AT&T 40MB internet, U-verse TV, HBO and 1 yr. of Amazon Prime starting at $39/month

AT&T is offering an online exclusive: U-verse TV, HBO, and a year of Amazon Prime for only $39/month. This is the lowest bundle we’ve with these three services considering U-verse TV has Over 300,000 TV shows, movies, music videos, and sports. Also, you get TV live or On Demand, room to room or on the go, and same-day-as-DVD and pre-DVD movie releases some up to a month before Netflix.

That compared to Verizon (below) which also offers HBO (or Showtime) bundled with a faster 50/50MB FiOS Internet local news and Sports (and no Amazon Prime) for  $50/month with $35 installation waved.

Both are great deals and less than internet alone.

Verizon FiOS goes symmetrical, upload speeds now blaze at same rate as downloads at same cost

Today Verizon announced that their FiOS customers will receive upload speeds that match their current download speeds. This upgrade is for everyone, both existing customers and new subscribers.

Now you might be familiar with Verizon’s throttling of Netflix or its mediocrity when streaming Youtube (the number 1 and 2 reasons for getting high speed internet) and those things haven’t changed nor has their anti net-neutrality stance.

But frankly, you don’t have much of a choice out there. Comcast is worse and as the FCC deregulates, it doesn’t look good unless Google Fiber is coming to your town.

Before the upgrade, the tiers were 50/25, 75/35, 150/65, 300/65, and 500/100, but now in all cases, the second # (the upload speed) will increase to match the download speed.

Our favorite packages, the $50 for 50/50 Mb FiOS + HBO, local channels and some noteworthy HD channels including ESPN also got the upgrade making the deal even sweeter.

There are many more packages now available at Verizon. Press release follows.
