Nintendo 3DS and Wii U online support is going away for good. We previously reported on the permanent closure of the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS shops, and it looks like online services for both platforms are now on the way out as well. It’s always sad to see the end of an era and Nintendo has now officially announced that “online play and other functionality that uses online communication will end service for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U software.” That means that starting in spring of next year, just about all online action on these platforms using Nintendo’s servers will be no more. The next-gen Nintendo Switch looks to indeed be a real thing now. Rumors of the next-generation Switch have been floating around the interwebs for years now, but it looks like some of the first real solid proof of it being in the works has surfaced. A recent report highlights that Activision was briefed on Nintendo’s next-generation machine late last year after internal emails came to light from the FTC Microsoft hearing. The next Nintendo Direct event has been officially scheduled for September 14 at 7 a.m. PT/10 a.m. ET. At the tail end of last month Nintendo broadcasted its dedicated Super Mario Wonder Direct showcase ahead of the game’s launch on October, 2023, but this time it is back to its usual and more mysterious ways promising 40 minutes of “games releasing this winter.” Head below for more details. 

Update: Reports also suggest Nintendo will be releasing a pair of Nintendo Switch Lite Animal Crossing New Horizons bundles on October 6, 2023 that include a digital copy of the game. The Isabelle Aloha Edition and Timmy & Tommy Aloha Edition bundles will be Target and Walmart exclusives. 

After the exciting unveil of the brand new Mario Red OLED version Nintendo Switch console, Nintendo has now unveiled this year’s Switch holiday bundle and it appears to be the same old thing. For the last number of years, Nintendo has launched a limited edition Switch console bundle in celebration of the end-of-year holidays and it is always the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe offering. This morning it took to its official Twitter feed to seemingly announce this year’s Switch holiday bundle and it will, at least as it appears right now, will be that same Mario Kart 8 offering. Today is the day folks as we are just minutes away from this morning’s Super Mario Bros. Wonder Nintendo Direct presentation. As promised, Nintendo is set to host a dedicated stream featuring its upcoming 2D side-scrolling Mario adventure, giving us our first look at the title beyond the debut trailer we saw back in June alongside the Super Mario RPG remake and Sonic Superstars trailers. The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons are now playable on Switch Online. While you’re likely still exploring every nook and cranny of Nintendo’s latest version of Hyrule in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, two classic Zelda titles have now landed on Nintendo Switch Online. The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages and The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons are about as brilliant a Zelda experience as they are oddball entries in the series and now anyone with a standard Nintendo Switch Online subscription can enjoy them in all of their glory. After just taking a closer look at what’s new for Pikmin 4, I am back with some insight on the latest party game from Nintendo. Everybody 1-2 Switch! is slated to land on consoles at the end of the month, and ahead of time I got to experience just what will be arriving come June 30.

Nintendo unleashed the epic beast that is Zelda Tears of the Kingdom already this year (it is now on sale at its best Amazon price yet), but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have more in store for us for the remainder of 2023. One might even suggest this upcoming presentation could cap off the summer gaming presentations in a major way after seeing PlayStation and Xbox take the stage alongside the Summer Game Fest show. After seeing some new designs on Nintendo hardware for the launch of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom last month, including the new OLED console and Pro Controller, Nintendo has now unveiled some new pastel Joy-Con for the summer. It has been a long while since we last saw some kind of refreshed colorways for Nintendo’s official miniature Switch controllers, but it is channeling some summer fun today with the launch of its new soft pastel treatments. Now just a few hours away from the official release of the year’s most highly-anticipated release, The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, Nintendo is taking gamers sky high one last time before launch tonight. After a series of teasers and a brief trailer in the first Nintendo Direct of the year, series producer Eiji Aonuma finally demonstrated actual gameplay back in late March before the game’s final (and incredibly epic) pre-release trailer launched last month. And now Nintendo is ready to show off some brand new, never-before-seen gameplay of Tears of the Kingdom as part of this evening’s live launch stream. 

New Zelda Tears of the Kingdom gameplay is on the way. The official launch of The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom is now under one week away and excitement is at all time high. It won’t be long until you’re Ultrahanding together flying ships, Fusing weird and wacky weapons together, and rewinding time with the new Recall ability. But on the eve of the game’s launch next Friday, Nintendo has now announced some new gameplay segments that will be shown as part of a series of  Nintendo Treehouse: Live segments. Joining today’s reveal of the upcoming Sonic LEGO sets, Nintendo has now added some new titles to its SEGA Switch Online library. While Nintendo has been most recently focused on delivering some new titles to its Game Boy and Game Boy Advanced libraries with games like Kirby’s Dream Land 2 and BurgerTime Deluxe alongside Side Pocket for SNES, this time it is reaching into the Capcom library to expand its SEGA offerings alongside some classic platformers and more arcade-style titles. As promised by Nintendo yesterday, we are just hours away from our next look at The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom. As per an official tweet yesterday morning, Nintendo has scheduled what appears to be the final pre-launch look at the game as part of what it is calling the “Third Trailer Livestream.” Now, just under one month out from the official release of what many would consider to be the most anticipated Nintendo Switch title of all-time, this might very well be our last chance to gleam any details from the experience ahead of launch. Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Switch console pre-orders will begin soon. Not to take anything away from the particular amazing looking Fuse system and crafting Nintendo highlighted in this morning’s gameplay video, but the new Zelda Tears of the Kingdom OLED Switch was easily one of the highlights of today’s official Nintendo presentation. While the price isn’t exactly anything to write home about, it’s not all that much more than the standard OLED model console (unless you buy it on sale anyway) and comes covered in a gorgeous Tears of the Kingdom-inspired paint job with golden Joy-Con.
