Have you ever wanted to turn your fridge into a giant Game Boy? Us too. Ok, well your fridge isn’t going to be able to play actual Game Boy games with the Freezer Boy set like this giant GB XXL emulator or the mini 3D printed Game Boy project. But for under $20 Prime shipped, you can at least make it look like it can.
FreezerBoy is a set of 6 magnets consisting of the 16 by 12-inch display, D-pad, the two iconic red face buttons and start/select buttons. According to the listing, they fit on fridges of all sizes (and laundry machines too!) and don’t leave any marks when you take them down.
Rumors are popping up all over the internet today that Nintendo might be getting into the subscription merchandise game. Companies like Loot Crate have achieved moderate success with the home delivered gamer/geek merch boxes, and it looks like Nintendo may want in on the action:

While nothing has been confirmed, sources say the “N-Box” will include everything from toys and clothes to other items branded with Nintendo’s beloved characters. You can also expect what sounds like a pretty cool themed crate, if this indeed a real thing. Those interested can opt for a single box or three, six and twelve month subscriptions.
There is an interesting connection here though. Zavvi is also expected to begin shipping its own ZBOX with a choice of Xbox, Sony or Nintendo goodies. The company is owned by a group that operates Nintendo’s official online store. While there may be some confusion between Zaavi’s upcoming Nintendo themed box and the official N-Box, there just is sufficient enough data to know for sure.
One thing is clear, Nintendo fans are hardcore, and I expect that if Nintendo does indeed get into the merchandise crate game, they will be flying off the shelves like the rest of its popular swag. Here’s to hoping we can get mail-ordered amiibo delivered to our front door every month in the future.
An interesting 3D printed, raspberry Pi-powered Game Boy emulator has popped up on Thingiverse recently. The DIY project combines the versatility of the small Raspberry Pi computers with some intelligent 3D printing to create what is essentially a mini portable Game Boy/SNES handheld console.
At just 75% the size, it has a much smaller footprint than the original Game Boy, and is just a fraction of the size of the giant Raspberry Pi-powered Game Boy emulator we detailed previously.
Packed with a Raspberry Pi A+, a slightly modded controller set-up (inspired by the SNES), and a 5V smartphone battery pack, the 3D printer files for the case and D-pad are provided on Thingiverse.
While you’ll need a 3D printer, a basic knowledge of the Raspberry Pi universe and a bit of ingenuity, it is possible to put one of these suckers together yourself. The instructions aren’t exactly detailed, but they do provide the necessary 3D printer files and a basic rundown of how to put it together.

If you have been waiting for a solid trade-in deal to upgrade your Nintendo (or Sony) handheld console up to the New Nintendo 3DS XL, now might be the time. GameStop is offering $100 in credit towards the purchase of a new Nintendo 3DS XL when trading in a 2DS, 3DS, 3DS XL or a PS Vita. Regularly $200, this would bring your total down to $100 on Nintendo’s latest handheld that features an additional thumbstick, faster processing, amiibo support and exclusive games.
If you’re interested in upgrading, this may be one of the best values you will find outside of selling or trading independently, which comes with its own set of hassles. You’ll find more details on the terms and conditions of the trade-in below, but for the most part it appears as though a system in good condition with a charger will lock down the credit.
You can find your nearest GameStop here.
On top of this morning’s game/app deals, GameStop is offering a Buy 2 Get 1 Free on pre-owned Wii or Nintendo DS games and accessories.
Terms and Conditions New 3DS trade-in:
$100 Credit toward New 3DS XL: Offer valid through 7/27/15. Credit must be applied toward the purchase of the New 3DS XL. Hardware must have all necessary components for trade. Not valid toward cash trades. Trades must be in full working condition to receive full value. Defective items may be eligible for trade at a lesser value. Trades subject to manager approval. Cannot be combined with any other offer. See store associate for details. No dealers. Offer valid in the United States, Puerto Rico and Guam only. Void where prohibited. GameStop, Inc. reserves the right to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the offer for any reason without notice.
Battletoads and vinyl records, two seemingly disparate items that have both seen a resurgence in popularity over the past few years. Now the two are coming together for one epic LP release courtesy of vintage collectibles company iam8bit.
Being shown off on the show floor at Comic Con 2015, the vinyl record contains David Wise’s soundtrack from the original release. The (amazing) art work you’re seeing on the exclusive Sound Chip jacket and Dark Queen gatefold is a limited run of 300 specially made for SDCC. You’ll also find a sweet looking green and yellow print centered with the Battletoads logo on the record itself.
For those who unfortunately won’t be making it out to San Diego this week, the $25 LP will be made available sometime after the show as well, but it will feature different artwork, according to reports.
Battletoads first debuted on the NES back in 1991, and recently found its way back into popular culture after rumors of a remake, an appearance in Shovel Knight and the upcoming Xbox One release of Rare Replay from E3 2015. The excruciatingly difficult beat’em up is also being immortalized alongside the rest of the Rare Replay titles in a limited edition art print by DKNG. The 18 by 24-inch hand-pulled screen print goes for $50 and there is only 400 of them. Unfortunately it is unclear whether or not it will be made available elsewhere, but you can bet it likely won’t be hand-signed and numbered like these are.

Nintendo kicked off its E3 announcements with a huge content update for Super Smash Bros. and then dove into some gigantic game announcements including Star Fox Zero, Super Mario Maker, Yoshi’s Woolly World, The Legend of Zelda Tri Force Heroes and more.
Wii U and the new 3DS handheld are rocking right now thanks to some major releases over the past year. Nintendo’s E3 announcements only upped the ante for these consoles and set the stage for a strong 2015/2016 showing. Nintendo’s E3 2015 digital event has now wrapped up and we’ll have all the details coming shortly. But there was one thing that was tucked away in all the excitement. Nintendo is offering a number of notable prices on digital downloads of Wii U games and 3DS titles. Just about all of the offerings beat out the best physical prices we can find, outside of Mario Tennis Open on 3DS for $27.99, which can be had on Amazon for less. Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker and Mario Party 10 for Wii U are at the lowest price we’ve seen. Down below you’ll find a list of the best deals, with price comparisons to the lowest physical listings we can find. If you must have the physical versions, then head over to our current games roundup for some deep deals on Wii U titles.
For more game deals, be sure to check out our daily roundups and be sure to visit our E3 hub for all the most exciting announcements from this year’s show.
Nintendo’s Game Boy handheld console has inspired a wealth of mobile gaming devices over the years, from its own 3DS XL to tiny custom made players the size of a credit card, and many more. While Nintendo’s archive of famous titles and consoles have been emulated and hacked to death over the years, the new Game Boy XXL might be one of the biggest nods to the beloved gaming company yet.
Nearly as tall as a person, and capable of playing all your favorite Game Boy, NES and SNES titles, this is one giant bit of Nintendo nostalgia you won’t want to miss:

Nintendo’s famous characters are everywhere, from adorning the top of retro-inspired amiibo stands, to a plethora of merchandise and soon, on mobile devices. But for developer Aaron Randall, that just isn’t enough. His new work-in-progress desktop app turns just about any part of your screen into a playable Super Mario Bros. level:
The aptly named Screentendo project allows users to select a portion of their screen for everyone’s favorite plumber to run around in. As you can see in the demonstration video above, a semi transparent window appears once the app is launched, which can be moved around and resized like any typical window. You then lay the window over an area of your screen, click in the middle, and then it analyzes the geometry of the images to create a traditional original Super Mario Bros. looking level, breakable bricks and 8-bit clouds included.
Unfortunately, there does not appear to be a compiled version of Randall’s Mario Bros. hack, so you’re going to need Xcode (or something along those lines) and a basic knowledge of coding to get the prototype up and running. Here’s to hoping that we will be playing Super Mario Bros. on the 9to5Toys logo in the near future.
Update (3/31 2:35pm): It appears as though the folks over at Nintendo weren’t too happy about the HD remake. Links to access Super Mario 64 HD are all shutdown at this point.
Many of us still remember the release of the now iconic Super Mario 64 back in the mid 90’s. Since then the game has garnered a massive following and is widely considered to be one of the most influential video games of all time. Even though the game holds up quite well after so many years, those N64 graphics don’t look as pretty as they used to. So developer Erik Roystan Ross decided to take it upon himself to recreate the beloved game’s first level in full HD using the Unity game engine.
While not a complete replica of the original, it is certainly much prettier and will be very familiar to fans of the game. It is complete with many of the enemies and obstacles from the original, and best of all, you can play for free right now on your Mac, PC or Linux machine (with gamepad support). It is also available right in the browser if you have the free Unity player installed. While there were previously some server overload issues, Ross’ blog states that new hosting has been provided.
Be sure to check out our ongoing Nintendo deals as well. We currently have some deeply discounted amiibo figures and rarely discounted 3DS titles still live from over the weekend.

More notes/technical stuff from the developer:
Demonstration project for the Super Character Controller, a recreation of Super Mario 64’s first level, Bob-Omb Battlefield. Everything is just as you remember, except some really minor stuff that nobody cared about like red coins or the Wing Cap or the Big Bob-omb. Replacing them are crowd pleasers like giant springs and coin blocks.
Gamepad support is available, so if you have one make sure to open the controls menu to set it up (keyboard controls are default). I’ve tested it with the Xbox One, Xbox 360, and DualShock 3 and 4. If any of these do not work, please post a comment below describing your situation. Likewise, if you use a gamepad that I did not list and it did work, please mention it so I can add it to the list.

Anyone who knows me (or follows me), knows that I’ve got a bit of an amiibo problem. I started out just looking to get Donkey and Diddy Kong since they are my favorite Nintendo characters. Then I got sucked into the amiibo vortex. Now, amiibo figures are peppered throughout my office. Sure I love how each figure can unlock exclusive in-game content, but I’ve got to admit the real draw for me is just how cool they look.
Now’s the time to get into the action if you’ve been sitting on the sidelines of the amiibo craze. Target is taking 25% off all in-stock amiibo figures online and in-store. Typically priced at $12.99 each, this sale drops the final price down to $9.74. REDcard holders will save an additional 5% and get free shipping on all orders. All other buyers will need to spend $25+ to sidestep shipping costs.

It’s no secret that Nintendo makes the best games for its consoles. The only problem is that they are rarely discounted. But right now Best Buy (matched at Amazon) has various Nintendo 3DS titles on sale. Gamers Club Unlocked members can save an additional 20% off the purchase price.
Standouts include:
We’re hearing some Target locations may have these titles marked all the way down to $14.99 (an amazing price) so it may be worth stopping by your local store.

Nintendo eShop sells downloadable current generation and virtual console (NES, SNES, Game Boy Advance) games, DLC, entertainment, and more. Just like Nintendo games, eShop gift cards rarely go on sale. Now’s the time to stock up while Best Buy is discounting $10, $20, $30, and $50 eShop gift cards by 10%.

UPDATED! Ever since Nintendo released the hit game Super Smash. Bros for the Wii U, demand for Nintendo’s classic GameCube controllers (and adapters to use them) has surged. Nintendo’s official GameCube to Wii U controller adapter remains hard to find and subject to price-gouging at $70-$100 through resellers, so third-party options have popped up at more reasonable prices. Since our readers and editors alike are Smash Bros. fans, we wanted to quickly point out some of the most popular GameCube adapters and controllers that are currently available, and much more affordable at $25-$30…
Update February 17, 2015: Gamestop is currently offering a $50 bundle of a Wii U GameCube Adapter and one GameCube controller, to ship May 1. If you’re holding out for the official Adapter, this is the easiest way to guarantee you’ll get one.
Club Nintendo, the rewards program for Nintendo Wii U, Wii, and 3DS users, today posted its final Rewards Catalog to let members redeem coins collected before March 31, 2015. There are 42 Wii U titles, 28 Wii titles, and 48 3DS downloads to choose from with coin values ranging from 150 to 850 coins, plus a collection of 13 physical items ranging from greeting cards and posters to t-shirts and bags. Additional final gifts not requiring additional coins will be announced for Gold and Platinum “Elite” members on April 1, and redemption of coins will end on June 30, 2015.
Coins for the Club Nintendo program primarily stacked up with 16-digit codes found inside Nintendo game packages, but also came from eShop downloads, Nintendo console registrations, and completing Nintendo surveys. If you haven’t yet checked your Nintendo Wii U, Wii, or 3DS titles for these codes, now would be a good time to look for them inside the front lids of game boxes, and redeem them at club.nintendo.com.
Some of the numerous downloads now available can be seen below…
The third week offerings for Nintendo’s Throwback Sale have just gone public, after last week’s release of Punch-Out!! for Wii U and the prior week’s deal on Super Mario Galaxy 2 for Wii U. Once again, you only have one week to grab a single steeply-discounted Wii U title from Nintendo’s eShop, plus smaller discounts on several Wii U and 3DS releases.
This week’s star attraction is Nintendo’s Wii U version of Metroid Prime: Trilogy, the 2009 Wii collection of Metroid Prime, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption in one download for $9.99 (reg. $20 digital). Discontinued and previously selling for as much as $300 on disc for the Wii, Metroid Prime: Trilogy is an excellent value for the Wii U. A Wii Remote and Nunchuk are required to play the game. Also available for the next week at reduced prices are:
Reports have suggested that Nintendo will continue to release additional Wii games such as Sin & Punishment 2 for the Wii U, but it’s unclear whether they’ll be part of the Throwback sale. Some of the Wii ports will no longer require special Wii controllers to play on the Wii U; others (including Super Mario Galaxy 2, Punch-Out!!, and Metroid Prime: Trilogy) unfortunately do.
Check out our Wii U Buyers’ Guide for recommendations on the right Wii U bundles, accessories, and games to purchase, as well as our daily gaming deals for additional discounts. Pre-order deals for Kirby: The Rainbow Curse ($50) and Mario Party 10 ($50) are amongst many we’re currently tracking!
Following last week’s mega-sale on Super Mario Galaxy 2 for Wii U, Nintendo has just launched round two of its Throwback Sale for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. As before, you have one week to grab one steeply-discounted Wii U title from Nintendo’s eShop, plus smaller discounts on several Wii U and 3DS releases.
The star attraction is Nintendo’s Wii U version of Punch-Out!!, a straight port of the 2009 Wii release offered for $9.99 (reg. $20 digital, discontinued but selling for $60 on disc). Punch-Out!! is a well-regarded sequel to the classic arcade, NES, and SNES franchise, where boxer Little Mac fights a huge collection of cartoony opponents. Also available for the next week at reduced prices are:
Next week, Metroid Prime Trilogy will become available for the Wii U, followed by Sin & Punishment 2 and other Wii games. Some of the Wii ports will no longer require special Wii controllers to play on the Wii U; others (including Super Mario Galaxy 2) unfortunately do.

Announced this morning during its Nintendo Direct video series, Nintendo has launched a new Throwback Sale in its eShop for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. While most of Nintendo’s discounts aren’t particularly newsworthy, this one is a better deal than most, because each week includes a steeply-discounted Wii U title, plus smaller discounts on several Wii U and 3DS releases.
The biggest steal in the bunch is Super Mario Galaxy 2 at an all-time price low of $9.99 (reg. $20 digital, $36 on disc), which is today being offered for the first time as a digital download for the Wii U. As the flagship original Wii Super Mario game, Galaxy 2 features an interstellar theme with completely 3-D planets. Also available for the next week at reduced prices are:
Next week, Punch-Out!! will become available for the Wii U, followed by Metroid Prime Trilogy one week later. Nintendo has indicated that some Wii games – unfortunately not Super Mario Galsy 2, we’ve learned – will no longer require special Wii controllers to play on the Wii U. Check out our Wii U Buyers’ Guide for recommendations on the right Wii U bundles, accessories, and games to purchase, as well as our daily Wii U deals for additional discounts.

While we have covered a number of NES emulators and other classic Nintendo inspired products, today we are featuring a premium option for the purists out there.
There are a wide selection of emulation options around for older Nintendo titles, but some prefer the real thing, with original cartridges and a console. Designed from a “single, solid block of 6061 aluminum”, the new Analogue Nt certainly isn’t the most affordable way to do that, but it might be one of the most elegant and authentic, outside of buying an original NES…
Following a successful launch in Japan and Australia last year, Nintendo today officially announced the New Nintendo 3DS XL for a North American release on February 13, 2015. The New 3DS XL has a faster processor than the original 3DS XL, integrated NFC support for Amiibo figurines, a second analog joystick with extra shoulder buttons, and fixes the original models’ 3-D display problems by using a new face-tracking camera.
Pre-orders for the portable will likely begin today, with four color options:
Nintendo notably declined to announce the smaller New Nintendo 3DS, which was released in Japan and Australia alongside the New 3DS XL last year. Expect to see many closeout deals on the older models on 9to5Toys starting today. We’ll update this post with additional preorder links as they become available.
Also announced today were two new collections of Amiibo figurines (see our Guide, here):

Forget Destiny and Call of Duty. The best game you’ll fire up Christmas morning will be Duck Hunt.
Nintendo’s classic shooter will be available for download through Virtual Console on Wii U for $4.99 starting next Wednesday. Even though it won’t be compatible with the original NES Zapper (you’ll have to use the Wii remote), there’s no doubt it’ll still be crazy fun.
The Duck Hunt dog and one of the ducks (shown to the side) recently joined Super Smash Bros. for 3DS/Wii U. Just imagine if Nintendo goes all out and gives us a Duck Hunt Duo Amiibo?!
The original hit the shores of the US in October of 1985 before releasing nearly a year earlier in Japan. While receiving mediocre reception upon release, the game has since become a classic among gamers.

Update 2-12-14 12:00PM: We’ve updated the Amiibo list to flag the seven Wave 3B Amiibos that are hitting stores on February 13. Also, we added Wave 4 (Super Mario Bros.) series Amiibos arriving March 20, 2015, along with the Wave 5 Super Smash Bros. characters coming in Spring 2015!
Nintendo’s interactive Amiibo figurines have rapidly become the surprise hit toys of the 2014 holiday season. Cool on their own, they can also use NFC wireless to interact with select Wii U (and future Nintendo 3DS) games, storing their own experience points, leveling up over time, and unlocking in-game bonuses. Unusual defects in some of the original “Wave 1” figures – notably including a super-rare two-cannoned Samus – are leading to crazy high eBay prices for certain characters, and prices are starting to go up for Wave 2 and Wave 3 Amiibos. Six of the Wave 3 figures are just hitting stores now, and Wave 4 preorders have opened for mid-March debuts of new Super Mario Bros. series characters.
ThinkGeek is offering 20-30% off sitewide on orders of $40 or more this week for Black Friday. They have a unique selection of the geekiest gifts for the holidays. Just remember to enter the code: ELFINSALE at checkout. Sale ends 11/29/14.

Today, Nintendo revealed the new Nintendo 3DS handheld console during one of its Direct events in Japan. The updated console will come in two variations, feature a much needed second analog stick and new shoulder buttons, along with a number of other additional features and updates:
Next-gen consoles and supped up PCs are producing beautiful games, but they can’t replace the sense of nostalgia felt by booting up your favorite retro game. 8Bitdo is attempting to recapture that feeling by bringing to market a Bluetooth version of the original Nintendo Entertainment System controller. Other than two additional two buttons and a couple design tweaks, Nes30 was built to mimic the look and feel of the official Nintendo controller…

E3 2014 has now wrapped up and we got a good look at what we will be playing for the rest of the year and beyond. Nintendo showed up with some exciting announcements like a new open world Legend of Zelda and our next look at Xenoblade Chronicles X, unfortunately most of it isn’t due until 2015. Sony and Microsoft, on the other hand, showed off some more immediate titles and products like Halo: The Master Chief Edition due out in November and Bungie’s highly anticipated next title Destiny, scheduled for a September 9th PlayStation 4 release date.
We thought we would put together all the best pre-order bonuses in one place for you starting off with Sony’s PlayStation 4 Destiny Bundle for $449.99. The bundle is set to ship
on Sept. 9th when the game releases and it will also come with free Beta Access just like preordering the game does. “Pre-order from Amazon.com and receive access to the upcoming beta. Amazon will email you a code to sign up to receive beta access within 2 business days after you pre-order”
Sony also announced some custom colored DualShock 4 controllers for $60 and a new Limited Edition Gold Wireless Headset in White for $100 to match the Destiny console bundle. The custom colored controllers have a Dec 31, 2014 release date set on them right now and the white headset will ship on the same day as Destiny.
Dont forget about Sony’s new set-top box. PlayStation TV is now available for preorder at $99.99. It will allow access to movies, tv shows and music as well as hundreds of older PlayStation titles and remote play of Ps4 games.
As many expected, Rockstar announced the PS4, Xbox One and PC version of Grand Theft Auto V at this year’s E3. The game will hit next gen and PC “this fall” and is currently available at Amazon and most major retailers via the Rockstar site.
Head below for a list of the best pre-order bonuses for the most highly anticipated titles from E3 and more:

Nintendo has just announced a new promo hoping to bolster sales on its upcoming entry in the popular Mario Kart series. The company will be handing out a free Wii U game alongside purchases of Mario Kart 8. Unlike many promotions like this, Nintendo is actually offering some amazing titles for free with this promotion including:
After purchasing, you can redeem your free downloadable game voucher code via registering the Club Nintendo PIN code for Mario Kart 8 (Wii U version only) in Club Nintendo at www.club-nintendo.com between May 30th and July 31st 2014. Mario Kart 8 is scheduled for release on May 30 in North America and Europe.
Nintendo also recently announced some official drops on some of its most popular 3DS titles including Mario Kart 7 and Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, all of which are now live on Amazon and other retailers.

Today, Nintendo announced some price drops coming to some its most popular 3DS titles. Its top three best-selling 3DS games of all time in the US: Mario Kart 7, Super Mario 3D Land and New Super Mario Bros. 2, along with Animal Crossing: New Leaf and Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D will be getting an official price drop starting April 22 to $29.99 each. Nintendo says customers should see the price drop reflected in both the eShop via 3DS and various retailers.
The 25% price drop sounds enticing, especially for those looking to catch up on some solid 3DS titles, but we have seen most of these titles drop below $30 already from retailers like Amazon, Best Buy and others. First party Nintendo titles don’t see discounts nearly as often as other games and platforms, so there is a good chance we could see listings for these particular titles dip even lower following the scheduled price.
While $30 for anyone of these games is a good price considering the value of Nintendo’s well crafted first party games, and is even lower than some current listings, it might be smart to watch out for some even deeper discounts in the weeks after the official sale begins.

Fresh of the VGX awards where GTA V took home the game of the year award, we’ve spotted some nice Sunday deals including a Best Buy games sale that has discounted Nintendo e-Shop credit, buy 1 get 50% off a second select Nintendo title, and a number of deals on PS3 and Xbox 360 games.
Buy One, Get 50% Off Select Nintendo Wii U and 3DS games including Super Mario 3D World, Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, Pikmin 3, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Pokemon X/Y, and more
