Analogue’s upcoming Mega Sg plays 2,000+ Sega cartridges and looks great to boot

With Nintendo’s launch of NES and SNES classic consoles plus Sony’s original Playstation reboot, companies have been working harder than ever to bring old games back to life. These systems store games directly on the console and let you play them without the need for additional hardware. While this is likely the preferred method for most, it certainly comes with its own set of problems. One of the major ones being that the games you want to play may not be available.

To solve this problem, third-party companies like Analogue are fully embracing the retro experience by offering consoles that accept original game cartridges. Analogue’s latest offering, the Mega Sg, was announced by the company earlier today and will play over 2,000 original cartridges made for Sega Genesis, Mega Drive, and Master System.

Nintendo debuts custom Diablo III Switch console for lovers of the dungeon crawler

Perhaps one of the things that Nintendo is best-known for is its ability to cash in on nostalgia. If this was not evident before, the company’s NES and SNES classic console releases over the past couple of years have certainly highlighted it. With rumors floating around that Nintendo is working on an N64 classic release, it seems that the level of success that the company has seen may be partially responsible for Playstation making its own classic console. Whatever the case may be, today’s news is that Nintendo will be offering a special edition Diablo III-branded Switch console in a few weeks.

Sony CEO confirms a next-generation PlayStation is in the works

While the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One aren’t old, they are starting to age. The One X and PS4 Pro bump did breathe a little more life into the systems, but a complete refresh is on the horizon. Just a few weeks ago, we noted that Nintendo was working on a new Switch, even though it came out after both Microsoft’s and Sony’s offerings. Microsoft has already mentioned that a new Xbox is being worked on, but up until now, Sony has been quiet. That’s all changed now that we know Sony is working on the next-generation PlayStation.

Nintendo patented a cell phone case that looks like a Game Boy and it has me excited

Nintendo Game Boy Case

We’re in the age of technology, yet the most popular items are re-launches of products from many years ago. Nintendo’s NES Classic has been a best-seller since its launch, staying sold out for many months. Sony is launching a PlayStation Classic, and there are rumors of Nintendo’s possible N64 Classic relaunch as well. Now, Nintendo might be launching a Game Boy case for your cell phone.

This Game Boy relaunch would not be done in the same way other classic consoles have been re-released. Instead of being a stand-alone device like the NES Classic, this is a case for your cell phone that brings the familiar controls and screen style of Game Boy to a device that already finds itself in your pocket every day.

Could the Nintendo 64 Classic be real? This trademark filing suggests so

Nintendo is a company that’s made headlines time and time again over the past few years. From the company’s acclaimed Switch to the SuperNES (and NES) Classic consoles that retailers couldn’t keep in stock, Nintendo has been at the forefront of retro (and small form factor) gaming more than anyone else this year.

Sony recently announced it was cashing in on this action by releasing the PlayStation Classic. I instantly pre-ordered this, as it was one of the first major consoles I ever had as a child. But, another console from yesteryear might be making its way to store shelves soon: the Nintendo 64.

Switch Online NES library already hacked to run unofficial games [Video]

Nintendo Switch Online

The Nintendo Switch has made its fair share of hacker headlines since its release in 2017. Within about a year, jailbreaks allowed for custom apps to run on the system. They even found a hidden version of NES Golf buried on there. Nintendo is certainly no stranger to passionate gamers taking matters into their own hands, considering all of the amazing, and very illegal, home-brew titles and unofficial online services. So with the Switch online service just kicking into gear this week, it was only a matter of time before hackers got down to business. We just didn’t think they would crack it this quickly.

Currently, you can only use PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds on PC, Xbox One, iOS, and Android, but that could all change this winter. PUBG faces some harsh competition if it releases on PS4, but could that be just what it needs to gain more market share?

NBA 2K19 Review: Basketball’s best simulation returns and reigns supreme

Buy Now

sEach fall we’re blessed with annual releases from some of the most popular video game series out there. In recent memory, no other franchise has enjoyed such a cult following like NBA 2K. Each year the series gets a fine tuning, along with updated rosters and varies tweaks that take the game to a new level.

NBA 2K19 hit the scene on Friday with more hype than I can recall in the last few years. Right out of the box it’s clear that 2K is set to shine again with buttery smooth gameplay and an exceptionally deep Career Mode that takes you on a journey from no-name to star. That’s not to say this year’s release isn’t without any issue as microtransactions continue to be a bother throughout. Despite that, NBA 2K19 continues to reign supreme as the best basketball simulation on the market today.

While FromSoftware fans were busy with the studio’s new title Sekiro, otherwise known as the destroy all my dreams of a new Tenchu ninja game, another, even more unique Miyazaki title slipped through the cracks.

Final Fantasy XV Pocket gets the HD treatment, now out on PS4/X1, Switch soon

(Update 9/14 11:48am): The Nintendo Switch version of Final Fantasy XV Pocket HD Edition is now available with launch pricing: $18 (Reg. $30).

Square Enix launched its latest entry in the storied Final Fantasy series in 2016 to critical praise (for the most part). That was followed up by a series of interesting DLC add-ons and then the Royal or complete Edition hit with loads of enhancements just before the iOS version dropped on the App Store. Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition for mobile was initially revealed in summer 2017 before going live at the top of the year. But now it looks like a somewhat confusing series of events that led to a cancelled Nintendo Direct presentation is pointing at a wider rollout for Square’s handheld version of the game.
