Could the Nintendo 64 Classic be real? This trademark filing suggests so

Nintendo is a company that’s made headlines time and time again over the past few years. From the company’s acclaimed Switch to the SuperNES (and NES) Classic consoles that retailers couldn’t keep in stock, Nintendo has been at the forefront of retro (and small form factor) gaming more than anyone else this year.

Sony recently announced it was cashing in on this action by releasing the PlayStation Classic. I instantly pre-ordered this, as it was one of the first major consoles I ever had as a child. But, another console from yesteryear might be making its way to store shelves soon: the Nintendo 64.

Switch Online NES library already hacked to run unofficial games [Video]

Nintendo Switch Online

The Nintendo Switch has made its fair share of hacker headlines since its release in 2017. Within about a year, jailbreaks allowed for custom apps to run on the system. They even found a hidden version of NES Golf buried on there. Nintendo is certainly no stranger to passionate gamers taking matters into their own hands, considering all of the amazing, and very illegal, home-brew titles and unofficial online services. So with the Switch online service just kicking into gear this week, it was only a matter of time before hackers got down to business. We just didn’t think they would crack it this quickly.

PUBG could be launching on PS4 this winter to compete w/ Fortnite, Blackout, & Firestorm

With Battlefield V and Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 coming to consoles this fall, it’s about to be clash-of-the-battle royale games. Fortnite is still king when it comes to this genre, and while that could change with Blackout and FirestormPUBG also wants in on the action.

Currently, you can only use PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds on PC, Xbox One, iOS, and Android, but that could all change this winter. PUBG faces some harsh competition if it releases on PS4, but could that be just what it needs to gain more market share?

Nintendo is bringing many classics back to life with its Switch console. Just yesterday the company announced NES-style controllers to use when playing original titles. Nintendo recently told the world of its latest plans for new titles, one of which has me very excited.

NBA 2K19 Review: Basketball’s best simulation returns and reigns supreme

Buy Now

sEach fall we’re blessed with annual releases from some of the most popular video game series out there. In recent memory, no other franchise has enjoyed such a cult following like NBA 2K. Each year the series gets a fine tuning, along with updated rosters and varies tweaks that take the game to a new level.

NBA 2K19 hit the scene on Friday with more hype than I can recall in the last few years. Right out of the box it’s clear that 2K is set to shine again with buttery smooth gameplay and an exceptionally deep Career Mode that takes you on a journey from no-name to star. That’s not to say this year’s release isn’t without any issue as microtransactions continue to be a bother throughout. Despite that, NBA 2K19 continues to reign supreme as the best basketball simulation on the market today.

FromSoftware’s new PSVR game Déraciné gets release date, new trailer [Video]

When you think of development studio FromSoftware, the first things that come to mind are more than likely not PSVR and classic, mystery-adventure games. Something closer to the nightmarish-lovecraftian environments and punishingly brutal combat of the beloved Souls-series titles and Bloodborne come to mind. While FromSoftware fans were busy with the studio’s new title Sekiro, otherwise known as the destroy all my dreams of a new Tenchu ninja game, another, even more unique Miyazaki title slipped through the cracks.

Final Fantasy XV Pocket gets the HD treatment, now out on PS4/X1, Switch soon

(Update 9/14 11:48am): The Nintendo Switch version of Final Fantasy XV Pocket HD Edition is now available with launch pricing: $18 (Reg. $30).

Square Enix launched its latest entry in the storied Final Fantasy series in 2016 to critical praise (for the most part). That was followed up by a series of interesting DLC add-ons and then the Royal or complete Edition hit with loads of enhancements just before the iOS version dropped on the App Store. Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition for mobile was initially revealed in summer 2017 before going live at the top of the year. But now it looks like a somewhat confusing series of events that led to a cancelled Nintendo Direct presentation is pointing at a wider rollout for Square’s handheld version of the game.

Amazon’s new Prime gaming pre-order perks are here, and the selection isn’t great

Just over a week ago we covered Amazon’s plans to halt its discounted video game pre-order pricing. The now-defunct offering gave gamers 20% off pre-orders, saving them in most cases about $12 per game since the majority of triple-A titles cost $60 at launch. The news is not all-bad though, Amazon will still offer a $10 credit for pre-orders of select titles, but customers will need to wait 35 days to get their money back and even at that point, it is an Amazon promotional credit.

Today, Microsoft is taking a page out of these companies’ playbooks with the launch of Xbox All Access. Announced as a limited-time offer, this service is an option that bundles a new Xbox One S or X with Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Game Pass for a monthly fee.

The Elder Scrolls: Legends will likely only be available on cross-platform-enabled systems

A hot topic lately in the gaming world has been cross-platform playing, and while most manufacturers support this, not everyone is on board. Sony is known for being somewhat hostile toward cross-platform gaming, most notably with Fortnite issues when it comes to those on Nintendo’s Switch.

Well, we might finally get a good resolution out of this. Bethesda, one of the world’s largest game studios, recently was interviewed by Game Informer about its upcoming title The Elder Scrolls: Legends. In the interview, the game studio said it might be looking to pressure companies into allowing cross-platform playing or face the potential of not having the latest Elder Scrolls game released for that system.

Doom Eternal debuts with over 15 minutes of gorey gameplay at QuakeCon 2018

DOOM as a game has been around since the early 1990’s and has stayed somewhat relevant throughout the years. First released for MS-DOS, then Sega, SNES, Playstation, Game Boy, Xbox, and eventually making its way to next-gen consoles and even iPhone, this unique game has yet to die throughout the years.

In 2016, it was completely rebuilt and released for Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Switch followed suit in 2017, and now its time for the next generation to take its flight. Doom Eternal is the sequel to the 2016 reboot and will launch for Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One concurrently, and we got a glimpse of some gameplay footage today at QuakeCon 2018. Nintendo Switch was also mentioned, but we’re not 100% sure on the release date there.
