Skreens combines your DVR, Xbox One, Roku and more onto one screen

Thankfully iOS 9 has brought multitasking and picture-in-picture to our favorite tablet, but still having multiple devices going at once can be a struggle.

There is a new Kickstarter campaign that launched yesterday with an eye on simplifying this first world problem. Skreens is a set-top box with up to four inputs that collects all your favorite sources and puts them on one screen. For example, your gaming console, Roku box and DVR can all be shown on one screen.

After just 20 hours, this project has already raised well over three times its original goal. Read on for more details.

Roku announces a new HDMI streaming stick for $50

Roku’s newest entertainment device is a $50 HDMI streaming stick that is scheduled to ship next month and seems to be a direct shot at Google’s Chromecast.

Unlike its predecessor that only worked with Roku-ready TVs, the new streaming player is compatible with all HDMI-equipped HDTVs. It is about the size of a thumb drive and fits discreetly into an HDMI port, which creates a “streamlined look that’s ideal for wall-mounted TVs.”

Just like its bigger brothers, this diminutive gadget packs “more channels and genres than any other TV streaming device.”

Once plugged in, the Roku Streaming Stick lets consumers start streaming from more than 1,200 channels (more than 750 channels in Canada, the U.K. and the Republic of Ireland) of movies, TV episodes, music, news, sports, kids’ shows and free programming…

Users can navigate this seemingly endless sea of content with the included remote control or any iOS/Android mobile device equipped with the free Roku apps. These same apps can also cast locally stored music, movies, and other content from smart devices to the TV.

Roku set to release smart TV plus $10 off Roku 1 player

Roku, maker of the most popular streaming player in America, has just announced its plans to release an actual TV. Through a partnership with TCL and Hisense, the Roku TV will have Roku’s software baked-in and includes a simple 20-button remote control. Users’ smart devices will also be able to be used to navigate the TV. Roku players boast the most streaming content and the new TV sets will be no different:

Just like Roku streaming players, Roku TV will have full access to the Roku Channel Store filled with more than 31,000 movies and 1,200 channels that feature TV shows and live sports plus news, music, kids, food, science, tech, fitness, foreign language and other programming

Smart TVs have traditionally lacked a great user interface so hopefully the Roku TV will buck that trend and deliver an improved TV experience.

Roku TV will be available this fall in sizes ranging from 32 to 55 inches. No pricing information was available at press time.

In the meantime, you can take advantage of a special offer to get streaming media on your current TV right now. Get a Roku 1 player for just $49.99. That’s only $2 over the best price ever.
