Wyze Cam to test ‘pay what you want’ for upcoming AI person detection feature

Wyze Cam Pan on desk

It was July of last year when Wyze announced it would bring free person detection to its suite of budget-focused smart home cameras. But then, earlier this year, Apple purchased the low-power AI startup, Xnor.ai, which was behind Wyze’s on-device person detection.

Wyze told its customers that it would roll out an in-house person detection service, and it would remain free — but after finishing up the feature, Wyze has found that it’ll cost them more than they initially thought. On the bright side, Wyze plans to test a “pay what you want” program allowing customers to pay $0 or however much they think person detection is worth, but there are a few caveats.

$63.50

iDevices’ hub-less HomeKit Dimmer Switch hits $63.50 at Amazon (Over 20% off)

Update: Amazon has dropped the iDevices HomeKit Dimmer Switch to $63.58.

Amazon is offering the iDevices HomeKit Dimmer Switch for $64.50 shipped. That’s $18+ off the typical rate there and is the second-best Amazon offer we’ve tracked in well over a year. When it comes to HomeKit light switches, several exist, but they typically have a few caveats. One of the most common is that a hub is required. This hogs a precious Ethernet port and clutters up the space around your router. This dimmer switch does not need a hub, removing a step from the installation process. This offering is also compatible with single pole, 3- and 4-way setups, which is something that can also be tricky to find in the smart light switch space. Rated 4/5 stars.
