Today will mark the first chance to lock in your pre-order for the PlayStation DualSense Edge, Sony’s new pro-grade controller for PS5. First unveiled back in August, the new DualSense Edge is scheduled to go up for pre-order today at select retailers after Sony took to its official PlayStation Blog last week to finally unveil the official pricing, presale details, and release date. Considering how scarce its PlayStation 5 consoles still are, those looking to ensure they land one of the pro-grade DualSense controllers might want to lock one in as soon as possible. After just unveiling the October PlayStation Plus free games and rumors of a new PS5 SKU, Sony has taken to its official blog to dish up the launch date for the new PlayStation Stars program. Initially announced back in July, the new PlayStation Stars program is designed to encourage gamers to stay active on Sony’s home gaming platform, complete tasks, and more to earn special rewards, digital collectibles, and even FREE PSN money, all with no cost of entry. We have seen a few hardware enhancements and alterations to Sony’s flagship home gaming console since it released, but nothing quite like the purported new PS5 detachable disc drive. According to Insider Gaming, Sony is in the midst of development on what appears to be a new PS5 peripheral that could very well see the console’s disc drive take on the form of a removable reader as part of future iteration of PlayStation 5. Sony came out of nowhere to announce today’s September State of Play showcase with a fresh look at ten new PlayStation games. Sony is standing in the shadows of this morning’s particularly eventful Nintendo Direct showcase that was filled with GoldenEye 007 action, the new Zelda game’s release date, and then some, but we won’t have to wait long now to see what it has up its sleeve. After bringing some of its in-house IP to PC systems, Sony is expanding to your phones and tablets with the newly created PlayStation Studios Mobile Division, it announced today. The news comes along with an acquisition of mobile development house Savage Game Studios and is pointing at Sony potentially bringing some of its major intellectual gaming properties to an iPhone, Android device or iPad near you in the future. A PlayStation 5 price increase is on the way. Unlike the Xbox Series S and Series X machines, locking down a PlayStation 5 at regular price is still quite difficult, despite some of the direct offers that have come available in the last week or so. But it appears things are going to get worse before they get better once again as Sony has now officially announced a price increase on a machine millions of gamers still haven’t even had a chance to purchase yet. The only real glimmer at the end of tunnel here is for US gamers, as it looks as though the price hike will only apply outside of the United States, for now. Head below for more. 

While not the exact PlayStation VR2 release date we were hoping for, it is now confirmed for next year. As anticipation ramps up for Sony’s PlayStation VR2 platform, we now have a better idea of when it will hit store shelves. Details on the system have been coming slowly but surely over the last year or so, but we now know PlayStation VR2 will indeed release in 2023, according to recent social posts from Sony on its Japanese Twitter account and on Instagram. Sony is ramping up for the launch of its latest-generation PS VR2 platform and has now taken to its official PlayStation Blog with some new details. After catching our first glimpse of the PlayStation VR2 headset back in February, Sony is now detailing some of the interesting user experience features with some new details on see-through mode, live-stream broadcasting options, custom play areas, and more. Just after launching the new overhauled PlayStation Plus program, Sony is readying something called PlayStation Stars. The new loyalty program of sorts gives gamers a chance at scoring some free digital collectibles, PSN wallet funds (basically free money to spend on the digital PlayStation Store for games and DLC), and “select PlayStation Store products.” Head below for more details on the upcoming, free-to-join PlayStation Stars program. 

A PlayStation 5 pro controller might be in the works. What could be the PlayStation 5 DualSense Pro controller is apparently on the verge of being officially revealed, according to an industry insider with more than one source close to the matter. Sony never really attempted its own pro-grade, first-party gamepad for its previous-generation console the way Microsoft did with its Elite Series 2, but if these rumors ring true, we might very well be seeing a new PlayStation 5 pro controller before the month is out. According to a recent Sony presentation for investors, we now have a better idea of what the PlayStation VR2 game lineup will look like at launch. While direct details have not been divulged by Sony to the public just yet, there will be a fairly significant number of titles ready for the next-generation of Sony’s virtual reality headset if the investor presentation is indeed accurate. Alongside the Call of the Mountain Horizon game from we already knew about, it now appears as though there will be “20+” PlayStation VR2 games ready to go when the new headset launches. Sony is unleashing some new details on Variable Refresh Rate PS5 support today, and we have the latest update on the upcoming PlayStation Plus overhaul. Back at the tail end of March, Sony finally rolled out “Hey PlayStation” voice commands for PS5 owners in the U.S. and U.K., just before detailing a future update to its latest console with support for Variable Refresh Rate on HDMI 2.1-compatible TVs and PC monitors. The update is set to launch this week – head below for more information on PS5 VRR support as well as the latest on the new PlayStation Plus program. 

The latest system update for Sony’s home gaming consoles has now been rolled out with the previously in-beta PlayStation voice commands, and more. There were several reports suggesting the update came along with some serious network issues – some folks were unable to access PlayStation Plus content as well as online services in games like Elden Ring and others – but it seems that has been corrected at this point, mostly. It’s finally time to get our first look at Harry Potter gameplay from the upcoming Avalanche Software RPG. Sony announced earlier this week it would be dedicating an entire State of Play showcase event – not something we see very often – to the game for its first gameplay blowout, and it has finally arrived. The teaser trailer we got about a year ago got nearly 30 million views, so let’s hope the folks at Sony come through with an exciting demo this afternoon. Today we are getting our first look at the actual PlayStation VR2 headset. After Sony teased specs on its upcoming next-generation VR rig back in January alongside the Horizon Call of the Mountain launch title, it has taken to the official PlayStation Blog to unveil the actual hardware. Today’s reveal is described as the “reveal [of the] stunning new design of our next generation VR headset, PlayStation VR2, together with an updated and final design image of our PlayStation VR2 Sense controller.” Head below for a closer look.
